Frequently asked questions.
Where are you located?
Movement Remedies operates from a home studio located in the Stockbridge neighborhood of Edinburgh. After completing a discovery session, you will be given precise directions. Please note that the studio is on the first floor without lift access, so for in-person sessions, you will be able to mobilize safely up a flight of stairs.
What is Pilates?
Pilates is a type of structured physical activity based upon a core set of exercises and purpose-built equipment invented by Joseph Pilates throughout his life, but starting in the early 1900s. It has since evolved to incorporate developments in physiology, movement science and physiotherapy. Part of what has driven its popularity is the fact that Pilates-based movement programs are designed to improve both mobility and strength, while the equipment makes it possible to minimize joint strain so comfortable, effective. exercise can be performed at any age.
Pilates equipment looks really intimidating. How will I know if I have the skills to use it?
The majority of the Pilates exercises are linked to functional moves you need for every day life, like moving from sitting to standing, walking up stairs, shifting weight from one leg to another, and reaching to put something away. As a result, I think you will find that most of what we do together is pretty intuitive. The springs and pieces of equipment might look complicated from afar, but I promise we will progress together in manageable pieces.
Do I need any prior experience to work with you?
Absolutely not! You only need a body and a sense of curiosity. We will work on all the rest.
Do I need a medical referral to work with you?
A lot of people are referred to Movement Remedies by their GP or physio. But that isn’t at all a requirement. If you have a medical condition or injury that might affect your exercise experience, it is a good idea to have clearance from your physician to begin a new movement program. We will discuss your history in our virtual discovery session.
